Individualized Care, Satisfaction with Nursing Care and Health-related Quality of Life-Focusing on Heart Disease

Abstract
This study was to understand of individualized care from heart diseases patients" point of view and to investigate associations between individualized care, satisfaction with nursing care, and health-related quality of life. The subjects were 95 cardiovascular disease including ischemic heart disease, arrhythmia and congestive heart failure patients from 2 general hospitals. The data was collected structured questionnaires including the Individualized Care Scale(ICS), Patient Satisfaction Instrument(PSI) and EuroQol-5 Dimensions(EQ-5D). The collected data were analyzed by SPSS WIN 14.0 program. The actual number, percentiles, means and standard deviation, ANOVA and Pearson"s correlation analysis were done.
The more individualized patients regarded their care, the higher the level of reported patient satisfaction with nursing. The correlation between individualized care and health-related quality of life was fairly low.
According to the result, individualized care may produce positive outcomes, such as patient satisfaction. Individualized nursing intervention should be pursued to be applied to a clinical practice in full consideration of individuality and needs of patients. Further research is needed to explore individualized care in relation to health-related quality of life.
